Abbey Gardens on Tresco is home to thousands of sub-tropical plants that thrive in The Isles of Scilly’s mild maritime climate. Even during the coldest part of the year, there are more than 300 plants in flower, making it a beautiful day out all year round. The exotic plants originate from countries like Burma, Brazil, New Zealand and South Africa. Despite being just 30 miles away, the plants wouldn’t be able to survive in Cornwall.
The Valhalla Collection in the gardens is home to over 30 figureheads and decorative ship carvings. They have been collected over the years from ships that have been wrecked off the Isles of Scilly.
The visitor centre serves up a selection of hot and cold light lunches alongside beer, wine, cider and soft drinks. Enjoy tea and cake surrounded by sub-tropical plants in the centre’s tea garden.
The gardens are open daily from 10am – 4pm. Entry costs £12 per person and under 16s can enter free of charge.
